Wild Bergamot
Monarda fistulosa
Wild Bergamot is a perennial. Its rounded cluster of tubular purple flowers can be seen in old fields, prairies, thickets, and woodland edges, from mid to late summer. Related species are cultivated in gardens. Wild Bergamot is a member of the Mint Family. I photographed the individual pictured above in late July at Chiwaukee Prairie in southeastern Wisconsin.
