American Creosote Works, Inc.

Location: Louisville, Winston County

Narrative: A wood treating facility that pressure-treated wood products with creosote oil and coal tar solutions from 1912 to 1997. For much of that time, the facility discharged waste into three ponds on the property.

Contaminants: PAHs


Chemfax, Inc.

Location: Gulfport, Harrison County

Narrative: Beginning in 1955, the facility produced synthetic hydrocarbon resins and waxes from petroleum products. Operations impacted soil and groundwater beneath the facility property.

Hercules, Inc.

Location: Hattiesburg, Forrest County

Narrative: A former chemical manufacturer. Releases and waste disposal practices resulted in soil and groundwater contamination.

Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp – Columbus

Location: Columbus, Lowndes County

Narrative: Kerr-McGee Chemical and its successor, Tronox Incorporated (Tronox), operated this facility from 1928 to 2003. It made pressure-treated wooden cross ties, switch ties and timbers. These activities impacted soil and groundwater.
